As an effort to realize Self-Reliance Local Food System; SHEEP Indonesia in Sipora Regency held a debriefing activity for field school (SL) volunteers. The activity was carried out on Saturday (13/08/22) at the Sipora regional secretariat office to prepare and provide understanding to prospective volunteers regarding the understanding of the field school curriculum which will later be forwarded to participants through a mentoring process.Field school volunteers are representatives of YSI partners who volunteer to provide themselves during commodity determination and village OMB planning activities. Later, after officially becoming volunteers, they will become YSI partners to assist SL participants in processing their commodities.
The activity was attended by 5 selected participants who were selected based on the ability to accompany participants, read and study modules as well as those who had previously had experience planting commodities of choice for field schools in Sipora area; they are very enthusiastic in telling problems related to community cultivation patterns that are still conventional and have not maximized the potential of their land to be able to cultivate local food productively and the insufficient knowledge they have regarding good cultivation techniques so as to be able to improve the quality and quality of the food commodities they grow and share their capacity with other participants.
The activity, which is a follow-up to the PRA (participatory rural appraisal) process, ended by writing down dreams and hopes related to the implementation of field schools and signing a letter of agreement containing commitments related to disseminating information, aims and objectives of field schools, accompanying field school participants (SL) in the process of planting, observing and documenting, and determining the timing of the implementation of field schools together with other participants in each group.
