The development of field school commodity management by adapting appropriate technology continues to be carried out by OMB groups in Kupang Regency together with SHEEP Indonesia Foundation. An example of this is done by OMB Tnao Tit in Fatuteta Village, Kupang Regency where they made a prototype of a chicken egg hatching machine in collaboration with the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Nusa Cendana University as a resource person. The activity was held on Thursday (02/03) at the field school in Fatuteta Village, Amabi Oefeto.
Talking about chicken livestock will certainly not be separated from efforts to maximise the productivity of livestock products, especially eggs. However, efforts to increase productivity have not been accompanied by adequate knowledge from the community, especially members of OMB Tnao Tit, Fatuteta Village; in mapping the problem, it was found that the community did not know how to maximise the eggs but on the one hand the demand for consumption was getting higher. One example of knowledge about fertile and infertile eggs (fertilised and unfertilised) where this knowledge will certainly help in determining the classification of eggs and increase the level of fertility in hens and produce a better and more productive chicken population; therefore to answer the needs, an egg incubator machine was made that is able to answer the needs of increasing the quality and quantity of production.
The egg incubator is not solely used to replace the Sasuk/Kola/Kora method (a place to lay eggs from woven leaves) that has been used by the community but OMB members are invited to look at comparisons of quality, hatching duration to the effectiveness of farm processing to get the best and most suitable tools and methods to maximise the productivity of chicks in the development of field schools.
Rossi Yunior as the Kupang area manager said that the egg incubator is expected to improve the quality and quantity of native chicken farming "Hopefully by providing knowledge related to egg observation (fertile/infertile) and learning about egg hatching methods, field school participants will gain knowledge and be able to maximise egg productivity, especially native chickens which have great potential in Fatuteta Village."
