In preparation for the running of field schools in Mentawai, Kupang and Sabu Raijua Regencies; on Thursday (12/05/22) staff of the Yayaysan SHEEP Indonesia local food resilience project participated in capacity building activities and field school practices in Joglo Tani, Godean, Yogyakarta. The hybrid activity focuses on preparing basic knowledge and practices of agroecology field schools that will be applied together with assisted communities with agreed food commodities in each region.
The activity was attended by 25 people, consisting of field staff in Sipora, Siberut, Kupang and Sabu Raijua as well as the field of sustainable Livelihood and Environment. Present as a facilitator as well as a material giver in the activity was Theo Suprapto who is the owner of a farmer Joglo as well as a field school assistant trainer. Some of the materials provided include an overview of pre-implementation, the implementation of field schools, to the management of group dynamics given by the game method.
The dynamics of the training emerged during the discussion of the growing season, one of the participants, namely Sharif Hidayat field coordinator Sabu Raijua asked about how to align the calculation of the planting period and harvest period which has been known and known for generations with the theory presented; whether this determination can involve indigenous elders as one of the stakeholders who have a great influence in the community. This involvement will certainly greatly support the field schools that are run. In addition, a proposal was also presented for the practice of implementing the curriculum so far and which will be carried out so that its use can be replicated and developed for each region.
With this debriefing and training, many references and materials are obtained which will then be applied as a step to prepare staff to initiate field schools [1]in each region. The material will also be processed as a guide and support the education of field school participants and the community.
