Writing Lab: Transforming Academic Writing into Popular Writing

To strengthen scholars’ public communication skills, the “Writing Lab: Transforming Academic Writing into Popular Writing” program was conducted throughout April 2026 for Leadership for Change (LFC) Scholarship recipients.

The program was designed to help scholars transform academic ideas into writing that is more relevant and accessible to the public. The activities included individual assignments, coaching sessions, as well as review and feedback on participants’ drafts.

Through this process, participants learned to simplify academic language, develop stronger narratives, and communicate their ideas in a more reflective and impactful way. The program concluded on 29 April 2026 and also provided an opportunity to recognize the participants’ best work.

The award for the best article went to Ummul Paidah for her piece “Aksi Demo: Saat Warga Bintang Lima Menolak Jadi TPA Darurat” (“Protest Action: When Bintang Lima Residents Refuse to Become an Emergency Landfill”). The article was recognized for presenting a critical perspective on community social dynamics through a strong popular writing style.

The program is expected to encourage LFC scholars to become more confident in sharing their ideas, experiences, and social concerns through public media.
