On 14 August 2025, the CADASH space (Canda dan Bincang Santai bersama SHEEP, or Casual Conversations with SHEEP) once again became a space for collective reflection through the theme “A Free Society with the Freedom to Speak Up.” The discussion featured two LFC Scholarship recipients, Hema Malini Situmorang from JATAM and Wilhelmina Morin from YADUPA.

They shared their experiences of shrinking living spaces due to natural resource extraction, particularly its impact on Indigenous communities and other vulnerable groups. The discussion invited participants to recognize that the struggle to secure safe spaces for people to express their aspirations and concerns is still ongoing.

Beyond advocacy issues, the speakers also highlighted the importance of maintaining a balance between social work, personal life, family, and self-care. Personal resilience is an important part of sustaining leadership and long-term social movements.

This CADASH session became a space for collective learning about the meaning of freedom, the courage to speak up, and the importance of self-care in advancing social change.
