In the disaster risk mapping conducted previously, it was found that North Lombok district faces a high risk of natural disasters. As many as 11 types of disasters were identified as threats from 14 types of disasters in Indonesia. The region has coastal and mountainous topography in close proximity to each other, increasing the risk of disaster. With this awareness, Perkumpul Yaksa Lumbung Kemanusian Masyarakat Pedesaan (YLKMP) supported by SHEEP Indonesia Foundation has taken a step by collaborating with the North Lombok District Government in a forum on July 26, 2023 in Sasak Narmada, North Lombok District.
The forum was followed up by holding a Hybrid meeting (online and offline) to discuss the Draft Regent Regulation (PERBUP) on the Information and Literacy Center for Disaster Mitigation Systems in villages as an effort to increase community awareness and preparedness to face disaster risks in the North Lombok region. This meeting emphasized the commitment to encourage preparedness and mitigation efforts as tangible steps to protect residents when emergencies occur. In this meeting, the Regional Government through the Head of Law of the KLU Regional Secretariat and the Disaster Analyst of BPBD KLU became speakers while strengthening the commitment.
The meeting was attended by the Legal Section of the KLU Regional Secretariat, BPBD KLU, PPA Social Service, TSBD of Santong Mulia Village, PEM Manager of Santong Mulia Village, and BNPB. The Draft PERBUP generally contains commitments and support from various parties and sectors in efforts to reduce disaster risk in North Lombok District. In the presentation of the Draft PERBUP there is a comprehensive and sustainable framework for the North Lombok Regional Government, especially efforts to build disaster literacy among citizens through continuous campaigns, education, seminars and training, so that the community has the capacity to understand the early signs of disaster, anticipation and appropriate prevention efforts.
This meeting resulted in various inputs from all parties, such as the role of universities and media that have not been included in the PERBUP, then the details of the roles of various OPDs have also not been accommodated, and there are many more inputs. This input will be used as reference material for the drafting team in revising and improving the Draft PERBUP. The next agreement resulting from the meeting was that after the revision process, a finalization meeting was held to determine the PERBUP that was ready to be ratified by the North Lombok Regent. In addition, it also ensures that the PERBUP becomes a strong reference in the implementation of strengthening disaster literacy in North Lombok.
Future implementation of the PERBUP will require close cooperation between local governments, communities and the private sector. The role of local government is crucial in providing resources, technical support and oversight for the success of this plan. However, the key to success of efforts to strengthen disaster literacy, which is an issue in the draft PERBUP, is that mitigation efforts and providing a policy basis will not be implemented if there is no neat cooperation from all stakeholders involved.
Met at the end of the activity Minardi as Director of YLKMP stated "Through synergistic collaboration, it is hoped that a safe and resilient environment can be created. Thus, the people of North Lombok will still be able to develop and shine even though they are faced with complex natural challenges. Community awareness and preparedness in facing disaster risks will be a strong foundation for building a safer and more sustainable future for all North Lombok residents" he concluded.
