Tuesday (19/07/22) at the UIN Sunan Kalijaga student center, the SHEEP Indonesia disaster management team represented by Suparlan (manager of disaster affairs) and Alvianto Roeseno (disaster staff) carried out capacity building for the UIN SUKA (Sunan Kalijaga) nature lovers student association related to volunteering in disaster emergency response. This theme is part of the disaster management cycle, in the emergency response phase.
The activity was attended by 15 members of the nature lovers student (MAPALA) who have the experience and basis to survive in the field, this is an important part when talking about how a volunteer is involved in emergency response. Students are given material on knowledge about disasters, types, cycles, management processes to how to make disaster risk reduction concepts and of course how to procedures when an emergency response occurs. The material is not only given in the form of presentations but also group discussions. In addition, mapping of each other's potential and what things are related to the standard of response that must be carried out before a disaster occurs, during disasters and post-disasters so that their initiative and knowledge are increased.
According to Alvianto Roeseno (YSI disaster staff) "The experience they have plus the knowledge they are directed and also their high intentions in humanity will make MAPALASKA more needed in society". The enthusiasm not only stopped at the end of the activity, but there was a follow-up that it was agreed that the follow-up discussion was the result of mapping the potential and interests of each MAPALASKA student.
