Community Evacuation Center (PEM) Santong Mulia Village, Kayangan District, Kab.North Lombok received a visit from drs. Pangarso Suryotomo, Director of Preparedness of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), on Saturday, June 12, 2022.During the visit, communication was carried out which was a follow-up to the previous meeting by YSI after the Indonesian Resilience House (RRI) event which was held in Bali in the framework of the 7th GPDRR. The sharing of experiences about the construction of community evacuation centers by YSI involving stakeholders in the YSI program area, is considered interesting to be discussed further and seen directly, including seeing the development of physical development and the foundation of PEM which has reached 50% more progress.
The visit was received by the PEM committee who at the same time took part in providing an explanation regarding the background of the emergence of PEM needs for Santong Mulia Village, and how the process that has been carried out by the Community, Village Government and actors involved including YSI in the development process. As part of structural mitigation efforts, the community hopes that the government in the future will not only be an evacuation site when an emergency occurs, but during normal conditions it can be used as a disaster education and literacy center in North Lombok, especially in Santong Mulia Village. Responding to the explanation from the PEM Management Committee, the Director of BNPB Preparedness or familiarly called Pak Papang, was also enthusiastic about the idea and how to encourage the participation of related parties, especially to BPBD Kab. North Lombok in the management of PEM in the future. In addition, discussions related to the picture in identifying opportunities and challenges faced when reflecting on buildings similar to PEM in other areas but the management and maintenance were not carried out optimally.
Appreciation is given to the People of Santong Mulia Village and also YSI who have initiated to encourage the realization of a Disaster Resilient Village which is also equipped with an Evacuation Center which is not only functioned during disaster emergencies but has also been designed as a disaster literacy and education center. BPBD North Lombok also plans to make PEM a pilot building for the Village Mitigation Development system.
