Martin Denise Silaban

Martin Dennise Silaban is a social development practitioner, researcher, and civil society activist with more than seven years of experience in community empowerment, civil society organization strengthening, democracy, civic space, and just energy transition initiatives.


He earned a Master’s degree in Social Development and Welfare from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), specializing in community empowerment and community-based development. He was also a fellow at Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) Indonesia Office and LaporIklim.

Technical Advisor for Network Development

Martin has extensive experience in policy advocacy, civil society organization (CSO) capacity development, humanitarian and development program management, research, and youth leadership strengthening. He is experienced in managing multi-stakeholder programs using participatory, collaborative, and social justice-based approaches, including working with government institutions, donors, universities, grassroots communities, and national civil society networks.


In his professional work, Martin is skilled in program management, training and workshop facilitation, strategic networking, program monitoring and evaluation, community organizing, policy research, and the development of advocacy and public literacy materials. He is also an active public writer on issues related to development, democracy, civic space, indigenous peoples, energy transition, and civil society strengthening. His writings have been published in various national and local media outlets, including Kompas, Tempo, The Jakarta Post, Republika, Solo Pos, Mongabay, Harian Jogja, Suara Merdeka, and Katadata.


Currently, Martin serves as Network Staff for the Civil Society Organization Strengthening Commission (KPOMS) and as Project Manager for the Leadership for Change Scholarship Program at Yayasan SHEEP Indonesia. In these roles, he is responsible for strengthening civil society networks and collaborations, managing scholarship and leadership development programs, coordinating program implementation, and supporting partner capacity development.
