Wednesday (20/07/22) located in the courtroom of the DPRD of Sabu Raijua Regency, SHEEP Indonesia in the Sabu Raijua region along with representatives of the CBO management of Jiwuwu, Eimadake, and Keliha villages conducted a dialogue and lobbying to district-level stakeholders as a joint effort to oversee and realize sustainable food independence through policies and regulations that will later be issued by the department and related stakeholders.
The activity was attended by the chairman of the Sabu Raijua DPRD, Mr. Simon D Tore and his staff, representatives of Bappeda Sabu Raijua, DPMD Sabu Raijua, sabu Raijua agricultural office and representatives of each CBO, namely Mrs. Bertha from CBO Jiwuwu village, Mrs. Yohana from CBO from Eimadake village and Mr. Hernimus from CBO Keliha village. The involvement of representatives of CBO members is an effort to provide space for aspirations and express opinions for the community, besides being a forum for the community to be able to increase their criticality, especially related to local food policies in the Sabu Raijua area. Bertha Leba, one of the community representatives, said they (CBO representatives) were honored to be able to directly provide their proposals, hopes, and aspirations related to local food to the DPRD.
From the dialogue and lobbying carried out resulted in several agreements and follow-ups including; The Sabu Raijua Regional Parliament is committed to prioritizing the budget of the relevant OPDs (regional working unit) (Community and Village Empowerment Office & Agriculture and Food Service) to support the independence of the local food system and recommends to the local government to be able to extend the YSI work program in Sabu Raijua Regency; in addition, the Department of Agriculture and Food provides support through providing training on product processing and preparing markets for local food production. Not only related to policies but the agriculture department also invited all OPDs (regional working unit) in Sabu Raijua district to make local food a mandatory menu at every meeting and campaign for one day of local food consumption.
