Located in the Demangan Village hall, 13 children aged 8-12 years participated in learning activities and recognizing disaster preparedness. This activity also coincides with the National Disaster Preparedness Day. In this activity, the introduction of disaster mitigation as early as possible is given to children by playing methods and simple explanations that are able to be captured by children.
Children who are part of this vulnerable group are also the subject of education who have a high risk but have the capacity or potential to be involved in disaster risk reduction. The activity started with an introduction from the village head, which contained support and appreciation for both the holding of these activities with children and how children also gain new knowledge through games. The children were very enthusiastic after a long time together that activities had not been carried out during the pandemic and they stayed at home a lot, spending more time other than learning to play gadgets and watch television. But here they seem to be free to relate to other children and learn while playing. Positive things also emerged from parents and RT/RW officials who were present to observe the activities carried out.
Learning, recognizing and playing about disaster is a new thing in Demangan Village for children, especially discussing understanding and disaster risk. Even during the session the children were invited to know what a disaster preparedness bag is, the knowledge and terms of disaster as well as things that can and cannot be done during a disaster are also quite interesting to follow. They compete to choose and fill in what items must be prepared when a disaster occurs. Various methods can be used to make these children recognize risks and understand about future disasters. What SHEEP Indonesia Foundation did for children can be continued and developed by RW 06 in Demangan after being given a game package about disasters at the end.
Also added by Sunu Sarihusada as the village head who welcomed the activities organized by YSI, he said that the presence of YSI in the urban village area was expected not only in buildings but also to increase the capacity of the surrounding community. This kind of activity is expected to be sustainable and YSI can synergize to increase the capacity of the demangan village community.
