The earthquake that shook Cianjur Regency in November 2022, left severe physical damage, including in Sarampad Village, Cugenang Subdistrict and Kutawaringin Village, Mande Subdistrict which YSI visited when conducting a needs assessment for residents affected by the Cianjur earthquake. In Salakawung Village, Sarampad Village, there were 370 houses and in Kuta Village, Kutawaringin Village, there were 47 houses that were declared moderately to severely damaged. The large number of building debris that still accumulates in the location or footprint of residents' homes after one month after the earthquake caused people who were getting bored living in communal tents to start cleaning up the debris of the house independently to be able to set up independent tents around the footprint of the house.
Responding to the needs and situations that exist in the community, YSI through the Cianjur post-earthquake emergency response program provides assistance in the form of work tools in the form of carpentry tools such as carts, shovels, bodems / balincong etc. that can be used by the community to carry out land clearing. In addition to carpentry tools, assistance was also provided in the form of cash for people involved in cash for work / land clearing activities for families whose houses were damaged by the earthquake.
The assistance of carpentry tools and cash for work/compact labour carried out with the community in Salakawung Village, Sarampad Village and Kuta Village, Kutawaringin Village was welcomed well and enthusiastically by the community. A total of 239 people from Salakawung Village, Sarampad Village and 48 people from Kuta Village, Kuta Waringin Village were involved in cash for work/compact labour to clean up the land of residents whose houses were damaged. There are 80 families in Salakawung Village, Sarmpad Village and 8 families in Kuta Village, Kutawaringin Village who are beneficiaries of the land clearing programme.
