Eko Wahyu Setyawati - God gave us a trial because he had a reason. There must be a meaning behind it all.
An opening sentence in this article before I wrote down my story. Ha...Ha...Haa.... I was not good at weaving words into beautiful sentences. Here, I was just telling about my experience...my story...which I thought was invaluable in my life as a nurse.
DILEMMA !!!!!.. That was what I felt when I got the offer. To be a medical volunteer in Palu after an earthquake and tsunami.
Something stirred in my heart...??? This was a calling or an opportunity given to me. Just a thought... It was almost one year that I left my profession as a nurse, which I had been working on for eighteen years. There was a desire to return to my old profession as a nurse while still taking responsibility as a mother and a wife. And suddenly the opportunity came...as a medical volunteer. An opportunity? Wast it a calling? Or was it a challenge?
Why not ??? I made my answer, when there was an opportunity, I saw it as a challenge, and I was happy I was given the opportunity. It was that simple.
Finally, in short .... I thank my husband for his support and encouragement and grace to let me take the opportunity.
BISMILLAH,..
The City of Palu. I am finally here....
Shaking, shivers, sad, when I started my work in this city. I saw God’s power destroy the city and the surrounding areas. It made me sad.
It was difficult even to imagine, that people lost their home, they lost their loved ones, and that their health was affected so much by the disaster, and many more stories to listen to.
As a medical person, it was my task to provide medical services to people in affected areas. I often got a change to listen to patients talking about their problems, and what they felt after the eartheuake-tsunami. They were traumatized, they felt fear that the disaster may once again strike. They talked about the impavts they felt after the disaster.
It was a really sad day. It was a day where we were most useful. Not only did we provided health services, in terms of treatment, care and knowledge, but also listened to their stories, and reduce their burden, although perhaps only slightly.
I served for twelve days in Palu. It was a brief moment perhaps. But I gained much experience and insights.
Lesson... Thank God that I was given the opportunity to work with exceptional people, the emergency response team in Central Sulawesi. Good JOB friends... My respect for all of you, this was a great pleasure that I could learn from this experience. The team served with so much enthusiasm, with so much self-sacrifice, and willingness to be away from their family in the name of humanity.
Experience ..I gained invaluable experience, when I saw the other side of the world and used my skills to help.
The key insight... when we witnessed God’s power over this disaster, when we witnessed with our own eyes the suffering of other people, what they truly felt, we realized how Great God was. That was a key lesson, that in life we could discount nothing, that we must always be thankful for whatever God gave us. Enjoy life, live a healthy and happy life, enjoy the moment given to us and share the good with others. Whatever little benefit we could provide to others must be given.
Thank God, I could pursue my ambition as a nurse – that I could be of use for other people. I was given an opportunity to serve, I could implement my sklls in places that were so far awaty from my own place. I saw Your power God and I knew that nothing was beyond You.
God gave them a trial because He had a reson for it. And that reason was for people to always remember Him. God gave a trial so that people learned from it – to always be thankful for whatever God provided.
In this opportunity, I would like to say thank you very much to SHEEP management for giving me the opportunity to become part of the team. CENTRAL SULAWESI EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM. It is a priviledge to be part of the team.
