Karst Landscape has unique geological aspect, that are important for fresh water management, and scientific value, that must be preserved and protected. Karst is essential for sustainability of local environmet and livelihood. Yet, the fact is that Karst Landscapes are under tremendous threats from mining – for example in Sukolilo, Central Java and in other parts of Indonesia. Mining is destroying and continue to destroy Karst landscape and thee cosystem throughout the country, and distubrs natural fresh water cycle, and ultimately fresh water availability for local people.
Karts protection requires close collaboration amongst all stakeholders – both government and non-government entities. SHEEP Karst Protection Program focuses on a review of mining practices in Karst landscape and subsequent moratorium of mining practices. Importantly, Karst protection necessitates local people’s awareness and ‘right’policy by the government.
