Skills Lab − stands for skill laboratory, which aiming at to equip medical student with medical competence. Skills Lab offers a learning method with sistematic medical skills which starts from simple method throug the complex ones, which then will be integrated in the end of studying period. Medical Skill containts of three basic aspects of skill, which are: 1) Communication Skill, 2) Physical Check up, and 3) Procedure Skill. Communication Skill consists of how to build emphaty to patients, how to open and to close session, how to negotiate with patients including its education and counselling. Basically, the duty of doctor in any specialities will end on the importance of communication between doctor and patients (Mora Claramita, 2009).
Up to now, most of skills lab learning process done throug tutor demontration in front of class and then student are demanded to practice themselves. It looks very easy when the students are watching the tutor to do it. In fact, many difficulties are found when the students practicing it. Students mostly communicate with cognitive perspective rather than clinical skills application and or professional attitude. Therefore students need to get chance to meet with community for direct experience and review it as their clinical skill capacity (Mora Claramita, 2009).

In order to get direct interaction with coomunity, Medical Faculty Universitas Gajah Mada (UGM) cooperates with Non Government Organization like SHEEP Indonesia Foundation for conducting the Skill Lab Program. Cooperation between Medical Faculty UGM and SHEEP Indonesia started as one Medical Doctor named Mora Claramita, MHPE submitted her research proposal entitled Learning Effective Medical Skill from Community. Her research was aiming at formulating learning method on medical skill for medical students on the third year with competence-based and identifying what kind of benefit gained by community themselves.
The first Skills Lab Program was done during the period of March-June 2009. There were 15 students join the program, which devided into five groups and mentored by three staffs of SHEEP and deployed to five partner community of SHEEP, which are: Patalan, Kotagedhe, Lemah Bang, Berbah and Ambarukmo. Before going to community, SHEEP provided briefing on Participatory Health Apraissal in order to get description on how to search information and how to map health problem in community. Beside direct interaction with community throug community visit, interview with some community leaders and community group discussion, the students also conduct Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on their finding, once in two weeks. From previouse FGD, most of students mentioned that they learnt many kind of new experiences from the community, especially on practicing communication between doctor and patient. The student found that skill lab in community was really usefull and important for them and highly recomended to be carried on in future.

Based on the research result and recomendation from Skill Lab I, Medical Faculty continues conducting Skill Lab Program in commuity and determines it as an elective subject for medical students on the third year. The Skill Lab II right now are focusing on community empowerment on health and education.
