SHEEP´s Location of Response
The Health team of SHEEP Indonesia Foundation arrived Padang on October 5, 2009. After coordinated with WALHI [West Sumatra Region], the health team was requested to provide health service at Padang Pariaman District. Padang Pariaman was chosen as there have been sufficient health services available in Padang city. Meanwhile at Padang Pariaman District many mobile health services have not yet met the needs since there are many isolated area and not yet reached by health service. After coordinated with WALHI [Padang Pariaman District], SHEEP´s Health Team provided their first health service at Korong Medan Baiak, Nagari/Village of Padang Binangun, part of Sagaris Sub District, Padang Pariaman. This area is considered as area with serious damage with collapse house [27 units], damage houses [146 units] and 2 dead tolls. Beside the high scale of earthquake, serious damage of houses is caused by its poor construction. Most of houses do not use pillar/column construction.
Although PusKesMas [Government Health Center in Sub District Level of Sagaris] deploys a midwife in every village, it has not yet met the need of health service of survivors due to limited supporting facilities. According to local people, there was not health service available before SHEEP´s team arrived.

During health service at Korong Medan Baiak, SHEEP served 125 patients, dominantly by mothers and children. Most identified diseases were: Upper Respiratory Infection [42 patients] and skin disease [20 patients], while others were suffering other common diseases like: cold, sore muscle, minor injury, etc.
Korong Medan Baiak is considered as one with minimum logistic assistance from the government. Most of support came from local people´s relative who work and live outside Padang. They sent logistic support and money after knowing that earthquake strike Padang. Up to now, logistic assistance for the survivors in some affected areas is very much needed due to slow distribution from the government. Currently, SHEEP´s Health Team settles its post at Jl. Siti Manggopoh, Balai Naras, Pariaman Utara, Pariaman.
