Flood in the District of Pati is normally a natural cycle (8-10 year cycle). The flood in 2006 had the same intensity as in 2002, but the inundation areas were markedly different. Flood in 2002 inundated 6 subdistricts and 21 villages, while flood in 2006 submerged 7 subdistricts and 36 villages and broke the 8-10 year cycle. The flood 2006 map in the 7 subdistricts resulted from overflow of Juwana River which flowed from south across Sukolilo Subdistrict. The River suffered serious problem of sedimetation, lack of maintenance and deforestation along its banks. Flood also came from the north (Muria Mountain) which lost its capacity as a water catchment area due to deforestation and land use changes (to productive agriculture, particularly in Gembong, Tlogowungu, Gunung Wungkal and Cluwak Subdistricts. Another major cause was the flow of water from the southeast, where a mountain has lasot its green cover due to deforestation and land use changes. The flood in 2006 inundated 5,657 hectares of ready-to-harvest rice fields, leading to 3,415 hectares of failed crops (as rice was submerged for an extensive period of time), and cost farmers a total of 22 billion rupiah
